BFPA and LIDL for a better life. The Challenges of Growing up

The ceremony of handing over of certificates in the frame of the second edition of the corporative programme of  LIDL ‘You and LIDL for a Better Life’ took place on October 3, 2018 in BCNL LogoBetahouse. New selection of organizations with ideas of four areas, among which active life and education, got their certificates. The social responsibility initiative of the company is implementing together with Foundation for Developing Civil Initiatives and Bulgarian BDF LogoDonation Forum.
The project “The Challenges of Growing up”of the Bulgarian Family Planning and Sexual Health Association (BFPA) is focusing its work on the importance of understanding and supporting the young people from parents during the time of their maturation. Developing of short video on puberty and its launching in the towns Sofia, Stara Zagora, Pleven, Ruse and Plovdiv, as well among vulnerable communities in the whole country – are main directions in the work around the idea.

BFPA supports BRCY Summer Academy “Back to the future”

For a second consecutive year BFPA supports Bulgarian Red Cross Youth (BRCY) Summer Academy. This year’s Academy motto is inspired by the iconic film “Back to the future”.  Young people from all over the country – BYRC volunteers, representatives of the Red Cross organizations from other European countries, trainers from partner organizations in 8 large modules gathered in Kamchia from September 2nd to 9th.  Dr. Radosveta Stamenkova, BFPA’s Executive Director, Petar Tzintzarski, MoH consultant and BFPA Board member and Stanimir Boyadjiev, BRCY President, were mentors for the “Prevention of risky sexual behavior, HIV and STI” module. The peer educators, motivated young people from all across the country, besides receiving information and acquiring interactive teaching skills for the topics from the module, had the ambitious goal to revise the handbook, created “far back in 2002” as they say, and since then has been used by all BRCY peer educators. The week was full of good vibes, enthusiasm, competence and dedication. This brings hope for the future and additional motivation.  #Brcyacademy

Our Learning Action Partnership – flexible and organic

Representatives of the National Network for Children, Bulgarian Family Planning and Sexual Health Association, Applied Research and Communication Foundation, MoH, PULSE Foundation, MSLP, National Network of Health Mediators, Tulip Foundation, UNICEF, Institute for Social Activities and Practices and the initiative Brave Bakery participated in the next meeting of Learning Action Partnership (LAP).
Summary of the activities done from the last meeting from LAP members and the work in process on topics of the working group was presented. The participants were informed on the conducted by BFPA and PULSE and ARC Foundations focus groups with young people on the second monitoring ring of Lanzarote Committee „Protection of children from sexual exploitation and sexual abuse, committed trough informational and communicational technologies“. The cooperation with Canadian and other leading world universities working on the topics of sexual exploitation, violence and abuse of children and adolescents was also discussed.

About Internet Safety and Young People

-Is it legal to make a photo session with semi naked pictures of children and adolescents under 18 without parental consent? If not legal, is it really prosecuted?
-To what extend and in what way a semi-naked photograph is considered to be pornography?
These were just part of the questions asked by young people who participated in a consultative group on protection of children from sexual exploitation and sexual violence that took place on August 24, 2018 in Stara Zagora. The working focus with young people from the two language schools, the mathematic and the commerce high schools in the town was mainly around informational and communication technologies. We talked about the rights of the child and about the potential dangers and the required responsible behavior in social media and internet.

Young Volunteers of BFPA for Safe Internet

Focus group on topics, connected with safety and protection of children from sexual exploitation and sexual abuse online conducted a team of the Bulgarian Family Planning and Sexual Health Association (BFPA) in Pleven on July 30, 2018. Special focus when working was put on informational and communication technologies. The work with children is an addition to answers of the countries of Council of Europe according to the Convention of Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse, which requires criminalizing of every kind of sexual crime against children. It shows that the countries in and out of Europe have to adopt concrete legislation trough measures for preventing the sexual violence, protecting children-victims, as well to implement criminal prosecution of perpetrations.

„Not everybody had the chance to get good education, we have to do our best to understand everyone,” – says one of the participants, thinking on the question if she knows whether there are some punishments for children who share pictures with provocative content in the network”.

BFPA survey about positive birth-rate measures

The Bulgarian Association for Family Planning and Sexual Health (BFPA) presented the results of a nationally representative survey conducted by KANTAR. The study took place in August 2022, among a sample of 836 people from the adult population and analyzed the measures that would positively affect the birth rate.

Final conference on ARIE project: PLHIV and fitness

On November 11, 2022, the final conference of the ARIE project was held in Sofia. The project is supported by the Erasmus+ Sport program, led by the long-standing Italian partner of BFPA ANLAIDS – Lombardia. The rest of the participating organizations are from Bulgaria, Greece, Lithuania, Romania and Slovenia. The activities are aimed at people living with HIV (PLHIV), the goal of the project is to develop and introduce a fitness program and an activity protocol for people living with HIV. In Bulgaria the project was coordinated by Boyan Mladenov from the BFPA team. Among the participants of the conference were health specialists, professors from medical universities, NGO partners, representatives of the target group. From the Bulgarian side the most outstanding was the presentation of Prof. Radka Argirova “HIV,Covid and Monkeypox - what more we have to know”
The project aims to promote physical activity in the form of personalized guidelines among people between the ages of 18 and 50 who are living with HIV and who are on treatment, offering an innovative fitness protocol to engage them in moderate physical activity.
This is the first project in Europe specifically targeting people living with HIV and fitness to promote a healthy lifestyle and add fitness protocols to HIV therapy.

 
Presentation of the results of a regional study and recommendations for SRH services in the European Parliament - project "Youth Voices, Youth Choices"

Brussels, October 26, 2022

In the last months of 2022 the partners of the YVYC project, together with experts and young people, developed recommendations for regional policy recommendations for improvement of health and social systems and SRHR services for young people after the Covid 19 pandemic.
The recommendations are targeting decision-makers at international and national institutions.  They were presented in the European Parliament on October 26, 2022 by young advocates and experts, with the support of MEP Fred Matic. Three BFPA representatives - Victoria Nikolova, Venelin Stoychev and Pavlina Filipova participated in the EP meeting.
