Training in Pleven on „Adequate health messages and prevention of sexual abuse for young people with learning disabilities”

Project logoThe next workshop for intermediaries of young people with learning disabilities (YPLD) on Keep мe Safe project took place in park hotel Kaylaka in Pleven. Pedagogues, psychologists, social workers, health specialists and parents of YPLD from different institutions in Pleven, Lovech, Dolni Dabnik and Zgalevo took participation. The experts from Bulgarian Association for Family Planning (BFPA) – Dr. Radosveta Stamenkova and Daniela Dikova – presented interactive methods for working with the target group, in which were included different combined approaches.

Training on advocacy

On June 12th and 13th 2014 BFPA was the host of a training on advanced level advocacy. Heather Barclay from the Central Office of IPPF in London conducted a two-day intensive practical training for the MAs of Austria and Bulgaria. The main presented skills were on the mechanisms and the methods for submitting recommendations to UN and the government representatives in the structure of the world organization in the area of the human rights, as well as for implementation the monitoring for realization the engagements of the country towards UN conventions. During the second day of the training trough active work in groups by countries were defined key social significant problems, as well proposals for solving them.

Study visit in Germany and Austria under the Keep me Safe project

From 19 to 23 May 2014 four representatives of BFPA – Dr. Radosveta Stamenkova, Executive Director; Ventzislav Kirkov, Program Manager; Daniela Dikova, Family Planning  Counseling Centre Manager  and Advisory Nurse; and  Ralitsa Zgalevska, Project Coordinator, were at study visit in the centers of the German partner on Keep me Safe –  Pro Familia. The visit took place in Bavaria and Austria.

Perdita Wingerter from Pro Familia Passau, included in the agenda visiting of long years experienced organizations and meetings with experts actively working with people with disabilities in the area of social practices and services.

An educational session on reproductive health, early births and early school dropouts

On May 8th BFPA’s consultant and health centre manager Daniela Dikova visited the “Ivan Bogorov” middle school N140 in Sofia. During an educational session in front of students, teachers and parents she gave a presentation on the risks for reproductive health coming from early marriages, and the risks of raising children by adolescents. The topics also included changes during puberty, contraception methods, as well as some of the sexually transmitted infections.

Training in Kazanlak on „Health education, adequate health messages and prevention of sexual abuse for young people with learning disabilities”

The first of a series of seminars that are carrying out in the country on the project KEEP ME SAFE, took place on 7–8 April 2014 in the town of Kazanlak. Dr. Radosveta Stamenkova and Daniela Dikova from BFPA presented interactive methods for working with young people with learning disabilities (YPLD). They included different combined approaches. Specialists from the helping professions – psychologists, teachers, social workers and health professionals which work is directly or indirectly connected with YPLD, as well as parents of such young people, actively participated in the two-day intensive training. A wide range of topics in the area of health and sexual education, including reproductive system, hygiene of body and contraception was concerned. The training included work in groups, case studies according to the legislation discussing, role plays and exercises connected with adequate communication and partnering between YPLD, their parents and trainers.
The workshop took place in cooperation with Future for the Kids with Disabilities Association, Kazanlak.

BFPA survey about positive birth-rate measures

Sofia, December 5, 2022 

The Bulgarian Association for Family Planning and Sexual Health (BFPA) presented the results of a nationally representative survey conducted by KANTAR. The study took place in August 2022, among a sample of 836 people from the adult population and analyzed the measures that would positively affect the birth rate.

Final conference on ARIE project: PLHIV and fitness

On November 11, 2022, the final conference of the ARIE project was held in Sofia. The project is supported by the Erasmus+ Sport program, led by the long-standing Italian partner of BFPA ANLAIDS – Lombardia. The rest of the participating organizations are from Bulgaria, Greece, Lithuania, Romania and Slovenia. The activities are aimed at people living with HIV (PLHIV), the goal of the project is to develop and introduce a fitness program and an activity protocol for people living with HIV. In Bulgaria the project was coordinated by Boyan Mladenov from the BFPA team. Among the participants of the conference were health specialists, professors from medical universities, NGO partners, representatives of the target group. From the Bulgarian side the most outstanding was the presentation of Prof. Radka Argirova “HIV,Covid and Monkeypox - what more we have to know”
The project aims to promote physical activity in the form of personalized guidelines among people between the ages of 18 and 50 who are living with HIV and who are on treatment, offering an innovative fitness protocol to engage them in moderate physical activity.
This is the first project in Europe specifically targeting people living with HIV and fitness to promote a healthy lifestyle and add fitness protocols to HIV therapy.

 
Presentation of the results of a regional study and recommendations for SRH services in the European Parliament - project "Youth Voices, Youth Choices"

Brussels, October 26, 2022

In the last months of 2022 the partners of the YVYC project, together with experts and young people, developed recommendations for regional policy recommendations for improvement of health and social systems and SRHR services for young people after the Covid 19 pandemic.
The recommendations are targeting decision-makers at international and national institutions.  They were presented in the European Parliament on October 26, 2022 by young advocates and experts, with the support of MEP Fred Matic. Three BFPA representatives - Victoria Nikolova, Venelin Stoychev and Pavlina Filipova participated in the EP meeting.
