Sofia, February 14, 2022
We celebrated February 14 - the day of wine and love, with the premiere of the latest animated film of the Bulgarian Family Planning and Sexual Health Association (BFPA) - "Family Planning: Hormonal Contraception". The 7-minute film provides the most important information about the types of hormonal contraception and the mechanism by which it works. Pills, emergency contraception, patches, silicone rings, injectables, hormonal IUDs and implants are presented in an user friendly way. You can watch the video on our YouTube channel.
During the whole St. Valentinе’s day in our medical centre at 67 Dondukov Blvd., our doors were open for free and anonymous HIV counseling and testing. We elaborated and implemented this activity in coordination with the Association of Medical Students from Sofia University. This date is always one more special occasion to talk even more about sexual health, which we place in the broad context of health education.
That is why on the afternoon of February 14, our Executive Director, Dr. Radosveta Stamenkova, moderated an online panel discussion on the need for health education, which the participants broadcast live on social networks.
The joint initiative for the event is the World Health Organization (WHO), the Bulgarian Youth Red Cross (BRCY), the Bulgarian Family Planning and Sexual Health Association (BFPA), the National Center for Public Health and Analysis (NCPHA) and the Single Step Foundation. We heard the opinions on the importance of health education in schools by Petar Tsintsarski from the Bulgarian Red Cross, Anina Chileva from the National Center for Public Health, Assoc. Prof Mihail Okoliiski from WHO and Momchil Baev from “Single Step”. The participants also answered the question "If I had a magic wand, what would I change in the field of health education?" For Valentine's Day, we also had joint graphic messages with a more unusual focus - how to celebrate the day without risking infection in the midst of the Covid pandemic. Otherwise, the common messages that unite us both within the discussion and in everyday work are: health literacy and health education are vital; fake news are toxic to social development; let’s respect and keep safe ourselves and the people we love.
