Veliki Preslav, August 26 2015. A training with Dr. Radosveta Stamenkova from BFPA on hygiene, nutrition and STIs for the teams of Family Counseling Centers (FCS) in Shumen. The last session takes the cake – the presentation of the teams themselves of their interactive sessions on hygiene, nutrition and STIs can make anyone laugh themselves sick. Dear colleagues, you are very good and still improving!
On the next day – August 27th at the newly-opened branch of FCS-Shumen in the village of Venetz, a working meeting took place with the participation of Dr. Radosveta Stamenkova from BFPA, Dilyana Dilkova and Ognyan Kamenov from the Ethnik Minorities’ Health Problems Foundation (EMHPF), Fatme Sali – Dep. mayor of the Venetz municipality, Bedrie Hussein – Director of the Social Support Directorate, Berie Yuzeir – Chief of the Social Support Department of Venetz municipality, Nergis Mehmedova – Chief of the Child Protection Dept – Venetz municipality, Vildan Ali and the team of the FCS – Shumen. During the work meeting the parameters of the joint work of the Venetz municipality and FCS-Shumen, as well as the possibilities for cooperation with BFPA and EMHPF were discussed.
In parallel with that from the 26th to the 28th of August in the Venetz municipality Dr. Krassimir Romanov copnducted free gynecological exams for the people of the Venetz and Hitrino municipalities. During those three days over 80 women were examined, 10 PAP smears were taken and 3 IUDs were inserted. And somehow you can tell that the mayor of Venetz is a woman – the village is neat, tidy and clean. Otherwise, the rate of unemployment is high, a lot of people don’t have medical insurance and the access to specialized medical services is difficult – Shumen is a whole 36 km. away. Because of that the free examinations performed by Dr. Romanov were an answered prayer for many of the women from the nearby villages. The system can be shifted, the municipalities only need to have the will, and the authorities need to listen to what the NGOs have long since understood and stood for.
