Official launch of the new centre of “Medecins du Monde” in Sliven, with the support of BFPA

The project “Reproductive Health and Prevention of Unwanted Pregnancies for the Vulnerable Population of Sliven Municipality” which the French organization “Medecins du Monde” will implement with the partnership of Sliven Municipality and the Bulgarian Family Planning and Sexual Health Association (BFPA), was officially launched. Attending the official opening of the new centre of “Medecins du Monde” in Sliven were the French Ambassador H.E. Xavier Lapeyre de Cabannes, the Mayor of Sliven Kolyo Milev and other official guests, among which the regional governor Korneliy Jelyazkov, the regional manager of “Medecins du Monde” for Asia and Eastern Europe Hugo Tiffou, representatives of the local and regional authorities, educational and health institutions, international and Training 2Bulgarian organizations and partners as well as representatives of the local communities. The centre is situated in the building of Secondary School N 8 “Yuriy Gagarin”, premises are provided by the Sliven Municipality and renovated by “Medecins du Monde” in order to create suitable conditions for organizing informational campaigns, communicational sessions and sexual and reproductive and family planning related counseling.

BFPA’s role in the trilateral partnership is to provide contraceptives and informational materials, as well as to assure trainings provision, monitoring and technical assistance. After the official part of the launch, Dr. Radosveta Stamenkova – BFPA’s Executive Director, and Ventzislav Kirkov – the Association’s Program Manager, conducted a training “Modern contraception, Reproductive health, reproductive Training 3attitudes and behavior of the vulnerable communities” for the team of “Medecins du Monde” and the health mediators from the municipality of Sliven.

This is the moto under which the initiative for HIV/AIDS testing of BFPA - Stara Zagora and the local Regional Health Inspectorate VCT was held. The mobile unit's personnel was positioned at the BFPA's centre - in one of the offices specialists from the RHI conducted HIV tests, while in the other Dr. Boryana Parashkevova held educational and contraceptive councelling sesions.

Conference of the future

On Jan 16 and 17, 2014 the National Network for Children /NNC/ organized a "Conference of the future" in Kazanlak, in which representatives of all NNC member organizations took part. The goal of the conference is to elaborate the new 2014-2020 strategic plan of the Network, including the vision, goals and activities of the NNC for this period. BFPA is an active NNC member and was represented at this meeting by Dr. Radosveta Stamenkova, executive director of BFPA and member of the NNC Management Board.

Campaign for HIV and hepatitis screening

On Nov 29th, on the eve of Dec 1st – World AIDS Day – Daniela Dikova from BFPA and Milen Chavrov from “Hope Against AIDS” Foundation visited the Roma communities in Varshetz and Kravoder. The people from these communities had the opportunity to be tested for HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C and also received valuable information and counseling from one of the best - Daniela Dikova, the manager  of BFPA’s clinic.

Press conferenceABOUT THE START OF THE CAMPAIGN FOR THE EUROPEAN HIV TESTING WEEK NOVEMBER 22-29, 2013

On Friday, Nov 22, at the BTA Pressclub a press-conference was held to announce the beginning of the “& I know…. my HIV status”, which is held during the European HIV testing week – Nov 22-29, 2013.
The initiative is organized by the National Patient’s Organization, Rotaract Club Sofia – Tangra, “Hope Against AIDS” Foundation, the Bulgarian Family Planning and Sexual Health Association and “Health without Borders” Association.
Attending the press-conference were:

The government got low grades in 2012 assessment on child related efforts

The National Network for Children presented to journalists, politicians and NGO experts the second report "Gradebook 2013: What is the government's average grade at its care for the children?" It is an independent review which indicates to what extent the commitments taken on by the government, concerning child policies and family policies, are implemented.

Training on Prevention/Prophylactics of Cervical cancer for health mediators

AURORA logoOn Feb 22/23 in Sofia took place the 2nd training course on Cervical cancer prevention, part of the AURORA Project that is going on in new EU-member states. The training was held in the premises of the Bulgarian Healthcare Professionals Association. This part of the training program involves health mediators from different regions of Bulgaria – Sliven, Kyustendil, Asenovgrad,  Lom, Varna, Dobrich, Montana, Vratsa, Dupnitsa, Septemvri. The trainers – Prof. R. Argirova, d-r R. Stamenkova, D.Dikova and d-r Kr. Romanov managed to present the information in a balanced manner, leaving room for discussions and Q and A sessions. At the end all participants received certificates for the training from Prof. Argirova. Their colleagues from North Bulgaria are already eager to meet us on March 15/16 in Pleven.

BFPA survey about positive birth-rate measures

Sofia, December 5, 2022 

The Bulgarian Association for Family Planning and Sexual Health (BFPA) presented the results of a nationally representative survey conducted by KANTAR. The study took place in August 2022, among a sample of 836 people from the adult population and analyzed the measures that would positively affect the birth rate.

Final conference on ARIE project: PLHIV and fitness

On November 11, 2022, the final conference of the ARIE project was held in Sofia. The project is supported by the Erasmus+ Sport program, led by the long-standing Italian partner of BFPA ANLAIDS – Lombardia. The rest of the participating organizations are from Bulgaria, Greece, Lithuania, Romania and Slovenia. The activities are aimed at people living with HIV (PLHIV), the goal of the project is to develop and introduce a fitness program and an activity protocol for people living with HIV. In Bulgaria the project was coordinated by Boyan Mladenov from the BFPA team. Among the participants of the conference were health specialists, professors from medical universities, NGO partners, representatives of the target group. From the Bulgarian side the most outstanding was the presentation of Prof. Radka Argirova “HIV,Covid and Monkeypox - what more we have to know”
The project aims to promote physical activity in the form of personalized guidelines among people between the ages of 18 and 50 who are living with HIV and who are on treatment, offering an innovative fitness protocol to engage them in moderate physical activity.
This is the first project in Europe specifically targeting people living with HIV and fitness to promote a healthy lifestyle and add fitness protocols to HIV therapy.

 
Presentation of the results of a regional study and recommendations for SRH services in the European Parliament - project "Youth Voices, Youth Choices"

Brussels, October 26, 2022

In the last months of 2022 the partners of the YVYC project, together with experts and young people, developed recommendations for regional policy recommendations for improvement of health and social systems and SRHR services for young people after the Covid 19 pandemic.
The recommendations are targeting decision-makers at international and national institutions.  They were presented in the European Parliament on October 26, 2022 by young advocates and experts, with the support of MEP Fred Matic. Three BFPA representatives - Victoria Nikolova, Venelin Stoychev and Pavlina Filipova participated in the EP meeting.
