Start of the 16 World Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence

Every year between November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and December 10, the Human Rights Day, the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence are celebrated in the world and in our country. The campaign was created by activists from the first Women's Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and is celebratring its 30th anniversary this year.
The initiative is supported by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, via the UNiTE Campaign to End Violence Against Women (UNiTE Campaign) by 2030. It was launched in 2008 to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls around the world, calling for global action to raise awareness, promote advocacy and create opportunities to discuss challenges and solutions.
For yet another year the color orange will be used to represent a brighter future, free of violence against women and girls, as a unifying theme, running through all the global activities of the campaign.

BFPA participates in the Ninth National Conference on Global Education

"We can explain the widespread gullible reading of fake news and the inexplicable confidence in aggressively spread conspiracy theories with the lack of global education and knowledge of the world." With these words, the President of the Bulgarian Platform for International Development (BPID) Professor Petranka Fileva opened the IX National Conference on Global Education "Education for Global Citizenship in the context of Covid-19. Common Horizons - Different Realities ”, which was held on September 11 and 12 at the Center for Training Students for the MES Olympiads in Sofia. The conference is organized for the ninth time by BPID in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science (MoE), with the financial support of the Global Education Network Europe (GENE), co-financed by the European Union and brought together over 70 principals and teachers from all over the country, representatives of civil society organizations and experts from the competent institutions.

Annual Meeting and General Assembly of the National Network for Children – 2021

Borovets, August 20-21, 2021

Banner Unmonitored pregnancies lead to higher risk of complications and birth of premature babies. Every year about 6500 such babies are born in Bulgaria. The expenditures for prevention, including monitoring the pregnancies, are many times lower than the expenditures for the care and raising the premature children. The initiative ‘Every Baby is Priceless’ is for a change in the Bulgarian legislation to guarantee the providing of the best possible care for every pregnant woman.
‘Every Baby is Priceless’ is just one of the causes supported by the organizations-members of the National Network for Children (NNC). The Annual Meeting and General Assembly of National Network for Children took place on August 20-21, 2021 in Borovets. The biggest civic organization working for children’s and families’ rights and wellbeing celebrated also its 15th anniversary. Ralitsa Zgalevska was the representative from Bulgarian Family Planning and Sexual Health Association (BFPA) at the meeting.

Together against the fourth Covid wave

Sofia, July 14-15, 2021

After we raised, trained and tested two classes of health mediators through the monitors - harvest of 2020 and 2021, on July 14 and 15 we finally had a live regional training meeting of health mediators, class 2020 and class 2021, from Western Bulgaria in Project Lab , Sofia.
Prof. Ivaylo Tarnev, Dr. Alexander Simidchiev, Assoc. Prof. Rumyan Sechkov, Dr. Antonia Valentinova, Dr. Radosveta Stamenkova and the Board of the National Network of Health Mediators were listening live the new additions to the NMHM. The specifics of the field work, the strategic partnerships on the ground and the battle for people's minds were discussed. This battle is being fought against fake news, generated rumors and the refusal to vaccinate. Dr. Simidchiev helped us in this from the position of both a pulmologist and a politician, and as a lecturer, able to convey clearly and understandably even the most complex matter. We talked about infections, about health policies, about the reliability of the sources of information, about the resistance of many health professionals against Covid vaccine prophylaxis.

For the health of women and children

Sofia, June 17, 2021

On June 17, after many months of online communications, we at BFPA gladly started actively participating in live events. Dr. Radosveta Stamenkova was a panelist at a meeting at the French Cultural Institute, organized by Doctors of the World and the Trust for Social Alternative. Key partners from the NGO sector, representatives of diplomatic missions accredited to our country, field work institutions attended the meeting, at which were discussed two important topics:
1. The need for a national family planning and sexual health program with a special focus on disadvantaged groups.
2. The need for adequate health care for uninsured pregnant women and the financial expression of the benefits of investing in health prevention.

BFPA actively takes part in the "Academy for Visionaries" of Sofia Municipality

Sofia, May 26, 2021

Seven projects began with a flying start on May 26 under the domes of the Largo at the very centre of Sofia. 54 young people won the right to participate in the "Academy for Visionaries" of Sofia Municipality - an idea created to provoke the younger generation in searching and identifying socially significant problems and then discovering solutions for them. The Academy has developed into an incubator of innovative ideas from young people for the community. Established experts in five areas assisted young visionaries in the process of creating and implementing innovative ideas with causes. Here are the five areas:
- Ecology and urban environment, with motivators - Lubo Georgiev and Elitsa Panayotova
- Sports and health, with motivators - Victor Kirkov and the Olympic champion Tereza Marinova
- Art, culture, education and science, with motivators - Svetlana Lomeva and Lyubov Kostova
- Civic and health education and media literacy, with motivators - Dr. Radosveta Stamenkova and Yana Pelovska,
- Support for disadvantaged people, risk groups, animals at risk, with motivators - Julia Georgieva and the Four Paws Foundation

10 years Report Card: The state received an average of 3.09 for its care for children

The National Network for Children (NNC) presented the tenth edition of the monitoring report "Report Card: What is the average success of the state in child care?"
Average 3.09. is the overall assessment of the work of the state and institutions in 2020. The same is the average estimate for the past decade.
The presentation of this year's "Report Card" took place on April 27, 2021 on Live streaming. Special guests of the event were Dr. Jane Muita, UNICEF Representative for Bulgaria, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Velina Todorova, Deputy Chair of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. Experts from the National Network for Children and Children from the Megafon Youth Network will take part in the presentation.
The Report Card is an independent report that assesses the progress of public policies for children through fact-based analysis in 9 areas: Child Participation, Child Welfare, Family Environment and Alternative Care, Protection from All Forms of Violence, Justice for children, Early Childhood Development, Child Health, Education, Sports, Recreation and Leisure. It also includes specific recommendations for the future work of the state and institutions.
Authors of Report Card 2021 are 39 experts from civil society organizations and 7 external evaluators. Through the conducted surveys, 700 children, young people, parents and professionals, as well as children-surveyors from the National Eurochild Forum were involved in the formation of the assessments and recommendations.
