Sofia, March 20 – April 2 2017
On April 2 the health mediators - class of 2017, received their certificates at the “Tzaritza Ioanna” hospital. The new 38 mediators, literally from all over the country, will join the big family of health mediators in Bulgaria. With them the number of working mediators will be 215 in 113 municipalities, and major part of them are municipality civil servants. The rest are employed with the same job description as their municipality colleagues, but as part of different projects such as “Together for better health” of the National Network of Health Mediators (NNHM), funded by Glaxo Smithkline, the Health and Education for Everyone (HEE) Programme by the Swiss Government, the program in Sliven of Medicins du Monde.
The training program began on March 20 and as usual in recent years, took place at the Medical University – Sofia with the active support of the Public Health Faculty (PHF) which certifies the mediators after a successfully passed exam. Before the training each of the candidates is selected after a concourse, organized by the respective municipality, as the evaluation committee consists not only of municipality representatives, but also of experts from NNHM, RHI, local NGOs.
The certificates were officially presented by Prof. Ivailo Turnev, member of the NNHM Board, and the graduates were addressed by Peter Tzvetanov – NNHM Board Chairman, Alexandra Raikova from the ROMED programme of the Council of Europe, Miroslav Angelov – medical intern and representative of the Roma medical students, as well as by the trainers of the program, which BFPA supports from its very beginning.
