Supported by the Open Society Foundations
“The Storytellers” ( 2018 - 2020) - a project of BFPA, supported by The Open Sociaty Foundations Berlin office, is focusеd on changing the narrative – the way we talk about Roma, PLHIV, people with disabilities and as a whole the way we talk in Bulgaria, via communicable, revealing and inspiring messages and key words and innovative approaches. The project has three main interrelated workstreams:
• Campaign to reach the “movable middle” and inspire proactive approach and development of critical thinking;
• A training for health service providers and field workers in Bulgaria on basics of storytelling, narrative medicine with focus on Roma and other vulnerable groups "Changing the narrative", in partnership with the Narativ company and its world-known experts on the subject;
• A documentary play called “The storytellers” in which women from different generations, educational background, past, social environment and ethnicity share the stories of their grandparents and their personal stories.
These three streams are an instrument to reach in synergy a better understanding and approach to Roma community and to improve the health services provision for Roma communities as well as the interaction of different strata of society.
Main target audiences in project are:
- Medical Service providers - Roma medical students and their mentors, university professors, health mediators
- Key BFPA experts, staff, partners and volunteers, who work for better access to health, educational and social services - integral part of BFPA advocacy goals;
- Members of the LAP (Learning Action partnership) - NGO's academics and state structures, working for prevention of sexual exploitation and violence against children and young people in institutions.
The indirect beneficiaries are all the patients, clients and target groups representatives the trained professionals work with.
