Support the health mediators in the special edition of The Change 2020

PosterSofia, November 1, 2020

From November 1 onward everyone can support the Association "National Network of Health Mediators" (NNHM) and make them stronger in their activities.
Support the NNHM project in the special edition of “The Change”. This is the largest socially responsible initiative of Reach for Change Bulgaria in partnership with Nova Broadcasting Group. In 2020, the competition is dedicated to the children most severely affected by COVID-19 with the financial support of ING, Aurubis Bulgaria and NN Bulgaria.
In the context of the Corona virus pandemic, health mediators are at the forefront of their communities to inform, support and assist them. In this situation, young people are among the most severely affected. They limit their social contacts and face-to-face education in schools. Many of them wonder why there is a need for emergency epidemic measures and restrictions against something they do not recognize as a real threat.

They find themselves in a communication crisis in which there are no clear messages to them, and fake news on social networks further creates disorientation in which young people cannot reasonably assess how real and global the threat is. This provides a risky environment of increased social tension, disorientation and mistrust.
It is vital to protect children and that is why in THE CHANGE the NMHW will work with young people from mutual support groups in Burgas, Sliven, Montana and the village of Dolni Tsibar. The main goal is to improve their health culture for disease prevention, including Covid, and to build capacity to be more responsible and prepared. They are expected to be the young awakeners in their family and friends, and the health mediators will be mentoring these youth groups and campaigns.

Break the Silence: Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Violence of Children Could Happen Everywhere

Sofia, November 18, 2020

Break the Silence: November 18 is the European Day on protection of children against sexual exploitation and sexual violence.
The first thing that comes to mind when we hear ‘sexual exploitation’ is usually connected with red lanterns, streets or roads with women (and men) sex workers, trafficking of human beings. Sexual exploitation of children could have also other faces – sex services in exchange of expensive things such as smart phone or modern accessory or at the cost of a lunch, sweets or instead of rent for parents’ accommodation. It can happen via internet and to affect minors before they become teenagers. That’s why it is needed to break the silence and to ask for zero tolerance concerning this ugly phenomenon. Statistics show that one of five children becomes victim of violence, including sexual. As parents we can prevent this: we can teach them for instance on the Rule of the Bathing Suit. It says that no one has the right to touch their body, especially where the body is covered by a swimming bathing suit. Medical examinations and manipulations as well don’t have to be allowed without their informed consent. The rule helps children to understand that their bodies are their own, that there is good and bad touching, as well es personal borders and social ethnic norms.
